Dec 04, 2010 Update: you can now download our free PDF ebook on memory techniques. While searching for new memory books to read, I came across a few interesting books on memory techniques that are in the public domain. I haven’t read them yet, but here they are in PDF format. You may need to apply memory techniques just to remember the titles.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my program as well as offer your reviewAll memory courses will consist of:The Loci method developed 2500 years agostory methodpeg methodPhonics and the Major systemIt is true Mega Memory teaches these, but all memory products do. It is also true that my peg list has some overlap with the Tree list. I worked for Memory Training Institute 1991-1992 (Trudeau founded this company with Blaine Athorne), then Memory Technologies Institute 1992-1994. At the time Memory Training Institue was owned by Blaine Athorne who also had Don Colton as an instructor. The company split and Memory Technologies was formed. Both companies were using the Tree list at the time.
Now a new company ‘Freedom Speakers’ teaches the Tree list. It was a pretty accepted peg list that was taught by Trudeau among many.
As an employee or contractor for all 3 of these companies I used some of the items but changed many that I liked better. As you know the peg list is a very small part of both programs.Regardless, thank you for taking the time to offer your review and your passionRon. Slatey I also think you have been a bit harsh. Many aspects of Ron’s systems may be similar to mega memory but I think he has added some features of his own. Many authors have built on previous ideas and if other peoples ideas were off limits we would not have progressed at all.You may feel Ron’s products are expensive but you can choose not to purchase them, I haven’t.You mentioned that mega memory was free on the web but I could not find it; can you provide a link.Ron may be running a business but he has also continued to be a helpful member of the memory sports community. He has made free resources and advice available on his web site. You can often learn a little bit more from different people and I have found Ron’s association list for names helpful and was fascinated by his training diary. He has been a national memory champion (so I think worth listening to) and been a contibutor to this list.
I feel he compares favourably to some other people running memory programs - GMS anyone? I have not read either course, but I plan on purchasing Mr. White’s course. One thing that Mr.
White has over Mr. Trudeau is integrity.
To my knowledge, Mr. White has not scammed millions of dollars from gullible people; Mr. Character is very important to me and, for that reason alone, Mr. White will get my money and my time over Mr. Trudeau. From what I have gathered, there are possibly a dozen different techniques or systems which people employ for assistance with memorization.
There are hundreds of books written on the subject. It seems to me that, to a certain extent, memorization is an objective skill that is mastered by using a combination of objective and subjective techniques. Objective subjects demand that information is used over and over again. It seems similar to complaining that authors of mathematic books are plagiarizing their predecessors. Also, I remember having math teachers that I liked a great deal and others that I disliked a great deal. The ones of whom I was fond did not know a different mathematic.
They taught the same mathematical principles as anyone else, but were either employing a well known, relatable technique or were simply more likable.I have many books on traditional hand tool woodworking ranging from the mid seventeenth century to the late nineteenth century. The techniques on sharpening chisels or plane blades are virtually identical in every one of those books. I don’t see much difference in sharing memorization techniques, but that is only the humble opinion of a complete mnemonic neophyte.Sincerely and respectfully,Mr.
All memory courses are going to contain ideas or methods that have been done before. All are using general methods developed thousands of years ago.
But everyone has a different slant on things, and a different way of learning or developing these skills, just like there continue to be new textbooks in Chemistry, Physics, Math, etc. That teach things a little differently. And that’s a good thing, having different ways of presenting materials.I’ve read Ron White’s book, and I got some useful info from it, the same as I did from books by Lorayne, Hagwood, Foer, and O’Brien.
And I continue to get great info from the websites and posts of mental athletes like Nelson Dellis, Alex Mullen, Lance Tschirhart, Ben Pridmore, Jonny Briones, Graham Old, etc.I have tremendous respect for Ron White’s talents, and even more for serving our country. That thing he did for the casualties of the Afghanistan war was amazing and touching. Hi All,Just wanted to clarify if Ron White’s memory course is legit or a scam? I had read reviews and based on reasonably favourable feedback had subscribed for his 30 day program.
Although my card has been billed I have not received any acknowledgement from the site or from emails I’ve sent directly to Ron at the email address he provided. It looks to me to be an internet fraud! Do any of you’ll have a similar experience and would appreciate any advise on how I can reach out to Ron/Brainathlete?Thanks!
Ron is a friend and I used his course first. I don’t know how much it costs now or if he has a new or different one out, but look around on this site for answers to your questions and ask what it is you’re missing. Everything I know today I learned from this site, from my own experimentation, and from conversations with contacts I had made on this site. I’m sure if you want the knowledge in a nice and tight package and don’t want to do any investigating then his will be just fine. If it is his old course though then I think you will be left with unanswered questions, as for numbers it goes into only one 100 object system, and if I remember correctly he didn’t touch on cards at all. But I think he may have a different one out now.
